One of the ways Red Door Community continues to make a difference in the lives of children impacted by cancer is through our Annual Club Sparkle series. This week-long half-day program provides children ages 5-12, who have a loved one who is living with cancer or are grieving the death of a loved one from cancer, the opportunity to participate in fun group activities when school is not in session four times a year.
This August, our last session for the year was generously sponsored by Flatiron Health who provided volunteers to work with the children on arts and crafts activities including the construction of bird houses and personal dream catchers. The kids also enjoyed games and workshops with special guests from Yogi Beans, Bee in Motion, Energetic Juniors, and Theatre Within. The laughter and smiles of the kids demonstrate the power of community.
“Flatiron Health and Gilda’s Club have collaborated on a variety of events, so we were excited to get the opportunity to sponsor and volunteer at Club Sparkle. Flatiron Health’s mission is to accelerate cancer research and improve patient care, so this was a perfect opportunity for our employees to perform hands-on volunteering with children impacted by cancer. Thank you Red Door Community for letting us participate in such a meaningful event!”
We are truly thankful for the support from Flatiron Health in making this week possible.
