Red Door Community’s mission connects with people far and wide. We ensure that no one has to face cancer alone, and while our home is New York City, we recognize that our work and our influence resonate well beyond our immediate reach. For years we have participated in the New York City Marathon with a team of dedicated runners who come from all areas of the country to support our mission and attempt one of the greatest individual achievements someone can endeavor. This year, we are expanding what participation can look like, creating new opportunities for runners to connect their personal stories to our cause in meaningful ways.

One of those stories belongs to Jack Lambert.

Jack Lambert is a true competitor. A former collegiate lacrosse player, Jack has continued to push his limits since graduating, completing several triathlons, including two IRONMAN 70.3 races. Some people are driven by the challenge itself, the desire to see just how far they can go.

Jack’s father, Matt, is also facing a challenge, but not one of his choosing. He is facing cancer now for the second time.

When the opportunity to run the Boston Marathon arose, Jack knew exactly what he wanted to do. He chose to run in honor of his father. Boston is Matt’s hometown, making this race a meaningful way to rally friends and family near and far around a cause that hits close to home.

Jack is also fundraising for Red Door Community, recognizing – as his family does – the critical importance of having a support system when cancer enters your life. A Florida family, a son running a marathon in Boston, and an organization based in New York together tell a powerful story: community is not defined by geography. It is defined by shared understanding and the strength we find in showing up for one another wherever we may be.

“Being able to run, raise money, and represent an organization that supports people through cancer is something I’m incredibly proud of, and it’s what will keep me going through every mile”. -Jack Lambert

As Jack trains and sets his sights on completing the Boston Marathon on April 20th, he has his father, his family and Red Door Community behind him every step of the way.
