On July 12, 2016, The Empire State Building (ESB) lit up in red and white in honor of Red Door Community New York City and Sony Pictures Entertainment.
Twelve children and teens from our Noogieland and Teen programs were invited to join Gildafest’16 honoree, Melissa McCarthy, and the rest of the new Ghostbusters cast for the ceremonial flipping of the light switch at the Empire State Building.
The kids arrived all smiles and dressed in Ghostbusters t-shirts which were generously provided by Sony. Once there, the GCNYC youth received a souvenir stuffed King Kong from ESB to commemorate their visit.
Lily Safani took to the podium and spoke about Red Door Community before introducing director Paul Feig who also spoke a little bit about cancer and Red Door Community. Mr. Feig was then joined by Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon, and Leslie Jones to flip the switch which would officially turn on the building’s lights in red and white in honor of all cancer patients and their families.
This was the first time in the history of GCNYC that the Empire State Building was lit in our honor.
