On Tuesday, September 15 from 12–1 PM, join Red Door Community for Health Insurance: Understanding Your Coverage Options & Preparing for Open Enrollment, an educational presentation with Amanda Goodstadt, Senior Staff Attorney at Triage Cancer. Triage Cancer is a national nonprofit organization that provides free education on the legal and practical issues that may arise with a cancer diagnosis.

Health insurance can feel complicated and navigating coverage while dealing with cancer can bring even more questions. Your health insurance can influence access to cancer treatment, specialists, prescription medications, supportive services, and the costs you pay along the way. With open enrollment approaching, having a clear understanding of your options can help you feel more prepared to make informed decisions about your coverage.

At Red Door Community, we believe that education is a powerful form of support. Learning how health insurance works, understanding your coverage options, and knowing what to consider when comparing plans can help people living with cancer, caregivers, and families feel more informed and confident as they navigate the practical challenges of a cancer diagnosis.

During this presentation, participants will learn how to:

  • Understand health insurance basics: Learn common health insurance terms and the different ways people may obtain coverage, including through an employer, government programs, or the individual Marketplace.
  • Compare health insurance plans: Identify key factors to consider, including access to cancer care and specialists, prescription drug coverage, provider networks, and potential out-of-pocket costs.
  • Prepare for open enrollment: Understand the enrollment process, important deadlines, and resources available to help you select and enroll in a health insurance plan.
