Mary Elizabeth Williams

Mary Elizabeth Williams is an award-winning journalist and the author of “A Series of Catastrophes & Miracles: A True Story of Love, Science, & Cancer.” Her work has appeared in Salon, The Los Angeles Times, National Geographic, and other publications. In 2022, her essay about her cancer experience was adapted for the second season of Amazon Prime’s “Modern Love.” She holds degrees in narrative medicine and conflict resolution, and is currently a doctoral candidate of medical humanities at Drew University. In 2011, she was diagnosed with Stage 4 melanoma and became one of the first people in the world in a groundbreaking immunotherapy clinical trial. Facing the challenges of sickness and treatment, she and family joined the Red Door Community — then known as Gilda’s Club.
