We are excited to welcome back to Red Door Community, The John Lennon® Real Love Project workshop, a program of Theatre Within.
The John Lennon® Real Love Project is a songwriting and music workshop that teaches basic guitar and song writing techniques using John Lennon’s music and message as an inspiration. It is a program of Theatre Within, the grassroots non-profit behind the Annual John Lennon Tribute, whose mission is to foster individual growth and social good through the performing arts and creative expression.
In the fall of 2016, the workshop was modified to fit with our Bereavement Noogie Night program for a 4-week series of music workshops. The children learned tips, tricks and smooth skills to put any feeling or thought into a song. Each child was given the opportunity to play a percussive instrument, sing, and write their own lyrics, as well as to explore the music of John Lennon. Fifteen children participated in this special program.
This month, the program returns with acclaimed artists Pete and Maura Kennedy leading the series for our adult members. “The program is based upon such an inspiring premise of love and creativity, we were excited to extend the workshop to our adult population,” says Emily Riordan, Program & Education Coordinator.
The four series workshop will teach Red Door Community members to play the guitar and ukulele, as well as write music. Each session will build upon the last session so in the end, members will be able to walk away with a finished product.
