Access-A-Ride

MTA New York City Transit administers the paratransit service for New York City, called Access-A-Ride (AAR). The service is shared-ride, door-to-door or feeder service for those who cannot take public transportation. Service fees are $2.50 per ride paid to the driver at pick up (exact change). Eligible to individuals that have a disability preventing individual from using public transportation. To sign up callers would call main line (listed above) and talk to a specialist about applying for Access-A-Ride. Callers would then be sent an application packet and appointment time 5-7 days from original call. Spanish translations are available, however there are no interpretive services offered for appointments.

American Cancer Society’s Road to Recovery

Available only in Brooklyn and limited Queens. No service to or from Manhattan.
The American Cancer Society Road to Recovery program provides transportation to and from treatment for people with cancer who do not have a ride or are unable to drive themselves. Patients must be traveling to an appointment required to begin or complete cancer treatment, or to an appointment for complementary therapy during cancer treatment. Transportation cannot be provided for follow-up appointments after treatment has been completed. Patients must be ambulatory, able to walk unassisted to and from the vehicle, or have an accompanying caregiver to assist. Patients under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a legally responsible adult. Advance notice required, 4 business days not including the date transportation is needed.

Corporate Angel Network’s mission is to help cancer patients access the best possible treatment for their specific type of cancer by arranging free travel to treatment across the country using empty seats on corporate jets. This not only improves the patients’ chances of survival but at the same time, it reduces their emotional stress, physical discomfort and financial burden. Services are offered to cancer patients, bone marrow donors and bone marrow recipients that are traveling to treatment, a consultation or a check-up. The individuals must be able to walk, must be traveling to a recognized cancer treatment center and must not require IV or oxygen. The appointment must be within a 3 week timeframe in order to be eligible. LogistiCare

Hours of operation: 7:00 am – 6:00pm
LogistiCare provides rides to and from medical appointments for patients that have been diagnosed with condition that won’t let them use public transportation. This service is only available for Medicaid enrollees that are not in a managed long term care plan. To enroll call the number listed above, or visit the website to download the necessary documents your doctors needs to complete. Services are available in English, Russian, Chinese and Spanish.
