The Start of Summer Brings a New Energy

There are many ways to kick-off a summertime mindset, and we all have our own rituals. It might be a Memorial Day BBQ, or a special 5K race we like. Or, it could be as simple as the first time you roll down the windows in your car and play a Bob Marley song on your way to the beach. Whatever the activity, like-minded people, music, and good vibes tend to be a vibrant combination.

On June 25th, Red Door Community hosted its annual Summerfest celebration to give our members an opportunity to have some fun, connect with people they may have only seen online, and meet new people that understand the importance of community during their experience with cancer. Some participants were regulars who never miss a party. Others have been long-time members but have never made it to one of our social events or seen our Loft space on W 26th Street. One woman at the event had just reached out to Red Door Community in search of support the day before and accepted our invitation to join Summerfest as a way to jump in and see our community in action. A warm welcome indeed.

Regardless of their tenure, our members enjoyed lively steel pan music performed by Marc Anatol, festive floral arrangements donated by Starbright Florals, great food supported in part by Wegmans, some thought-provoking trivia with prizes and great company.

Bringing people together to celebrate human connection and positive vibes is a great way to let the energy of summer start to sink in!

Aloha from Red Door Community!
