Thank you for sharing this story, Matthew. What an incredibly difficult situation for Judy and unfortunately, far too many families are being forced to navigate abrupt changes like this with little notice and immense stress.
Stories like this remind us how critical it is to ensure that systems meant to support health and wellbeing actually do so without disruption, especially for people who have major illnesses. Medicare Advantage and other private coverage models were created with the promise of better coordinated care, but when networks shift overnight, or access to providers disappears, it undermines confidence, continuity of care, and, frankly, dignity. It’s vital that policymakers, insurers, and community partners prioritize continuity of care for seniors.
At Red Door Community, we work every day to support older adults, caregivers, and families in accessing the care and stability they deserve. We stand with Judy and all older adults who are caught in situations like this. Red Door Community champions systems that elevate the voices and needs of those we serve, and we welcome collaboration with others who are committed to creating solutions to foster health and dignity across every stage of life.
