On Thursday, April 30, Young Adults Connect at Red Door Community will welcome a special guest speaker: Matthew Zachary. This event is designed to bring young adults together for meaningful conversation, shared experiences, and a sense of connection – and Matthew’s voice will set the tone for what promises to be a powerful gathering.
There are certain people who can put words to an experience in a way that makes you feel immediately understood. Matthew Zachary is one of those voices.
A 30-year brain cancer survivor, author, and co-founder of We The Patients, Matthew has spent decades reshaping how we talk about cancer. His perspective is direct, unfiltered, and grounded in lived experience, offering a version of the cancer story that feels real and authentic.
He speaks openly about what it means to navigate cancer at a young age, and how that experience can shift your sense of self, your relationships, and the direction you thought your life would take. But just as importantly, he makes space for something often overlooked: that alongside all of this, there can still be humor, connection, and moments that feel like you again.
That balance is what resonates so deeply, especially for young adults impacted by cancer who are often searching for people who truly understand what they’re going through, without needing to over-explain it.
At Red Door Community, we believe in creating spaces where voices like Matthew Zachary’s can be heard and felt. Bringing him into our Young Adults Connect evening allows for a deeper kind of conversation – one rooted in honesty and relatability.
Because sometimes, the most powerful thing you can hear is someone saying what you’ve been feeling all along and realizing you’re not alone.
