When Mayo Simon was diagnosed with cancer, he didn’t know where to turn. Like so many people facing a cancer diagnosis, he felt overwhelmed, uncertain, and in need of support. What he found was a community that understood what he was going through and welcomed him exactly as he was.

That was more than 30 years ago.

Today, at 98 years old, Mayo remains an active member of Red Door Community and a powerful example of the lasting impact that connection, understanding, and support can have on a person’s life. In the video below, Mayo reflects on his journey and the role Red Door Community has played over the past three decades.

“I thought I was just another member drawing from the group, but one day in the group someone said, ‘Mayo, you give me hope.'”

Mayo’s story reminds us that cancer is more than a medical diagnosis. It affects every aspect of a person’s life, and no one should have to face it alone.

For 30 years, Red Door Community has provided free emotional and social support to people impacted by cancer, including those diagnosed, caregivers, loved ones, and those grieving a loss. Through support groups, educational workshops, healthy lifestyle programs, and opportunities for meaningful connection, our community helps individuals and families navigate cancer together.

Every gift helps provide free support groups, educational workshops, wellness programs, and community for individuals and families impacted by cancer. Thank you for helping ensure that no one faces cancer alone.
